President Muhammadu Buhari Emerges Winner !

The final results of the presidential elections which took place on Saturday the 23rd of February after being abruptly postponed from its original date 16th of February in the early hours of 2am and which took about 3days to collate has finally been released today, Wednesday the 27th of February 2019 at 3am WAT. Incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressive Alliance (APC) garnered a total of  15,191,874 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who got a total of 11,262,978 votes.

Mixed reactions are already trailing president Muhammadu Buhari’s victory because while some are expressing joy and sending goodwill congratulatory messages, a lot others are not pleased with the results and are even faulting the whole election process. Speaking of the election process, we all witnessed it and there were several loopholes and irregularities in different locations. Many polling units in port harcourt were ravaged by violence and fatalities which inevitably led to no results from there. Coming down to Lagos, there were certain places where hoodlums said to be APC thugs outrightly harrassed and prevented people from voting because those were said to be PDP strongholds. Places like Orile, Aguda and Egbeda. It even gets worse in some other parts like Agoh, and okota where ballot boxes were burned. So I guess the threat towards ballot box snatchers didn’t hold any substance after all.

However, I feel we the general public shouldn’t be discouraged by this but should take a cue and use it as a wake up call to Always be ready to stand for their rights and never give up on this country until their voices are heard and there’s a paradigm shift that will cause a major positive change to occur. Also I want to express my great displeasure and disappointment in the youth whom despite their daily ranting and wailing on social media these past 4years where missing in action on the Election Day. I did my survey and Most of the people I saw at various polling units where either middle aged or senior citizens. We shouldn’t clamor for change and sit back when the opportunity to effect the change emerges.

Atleast I’m glad that some younger aspirants like Sowore, Fela Durotoye and Kingsley Muoghalu made their voices heard thus birthing a movement which I hope they keep the same energy for in subsequent years/elections. Although it is rumored that due to the zoning method Nigeria uses, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is dubbed to run for president in 2023. Nonetheless congratulations to our able and resilient president on his victory, May he effect a positive change and take us to the next level within these coming 4years.
